MKNexusonline Moderators Discussion
How many among you think you can become good Moderators of mknexusonline instead of the already on duty mknexusonline Moderator?
There are few rules before posts

I don't know, I think one of we can be a good moderator if he/she knows how to be a moderator, controlling MKN, providing some important in the forums...

I don't think I could. I don't know enough about Mortal Kombat to be able to moderate the forums or the people in it.

Doubt I would be a good choice either. I am way too busy playing games which is sort of ironic in a sense.

If i was a moderator I would advertise the site daily. I would try to intergrate all the good review sites for games that people are trying to get. I would help make the site more productive and more visible. I would try to help new people out whenever they need it, and help out the current users of the site.

Being a moderator doesn't have to take over your life but it does take having patience.
First off, a moderator should be a neutral person, meaning the person wont pick sides just because they like/dislike a person. They will be fair before coming to a decision. You can like/dislike whoever you want but you have to put your personal feelings to the back of your mind and deal with the situation fairly. Second, a moderator needs to know how to keep their cool. Some people don't like to be told things like 'stop bumping old threads' or have their topic locked/deleted. They will most definately fire back at you and tell you 'you have a big head', 'you're on a high horse', etc. You have to know how to respond without blowing your own top. It's one of your duties to keep people from acting out so it doesn't help the situation if you act out yourself. It can be hard, believe me, but you need to keep yourself in check and deal with the situation properly without name calling and such, no matter how many insults they throw at you. Reading threads is important. Yes, there may be a lot of new posts, but it's a good idea to check as many as you can. There is a report post button but not many people use it so you have to sometimes dig through posts to find people flaming, threads in the wrong section, threads that have already been made or off topic/spam posts. You'd be surprised at the amount of things that go unreported. At the end of the day, (in the case of MK forums) you are an MK fan like the regular members are. Being a moderator doesn't make anyone any better than the rest of the board. I can't stand mods who think they are far above everyone else just because they have a mod status in an online community. You have extra 'powers', yes, but don't let that get to your head. Deal with people without being arrogant. If anyone with a mod status treats it like it's a real full time job that makes you some kind of king/queen of a community, recheck your obviously pathetic life. It's a title in a forum, nothing more. It's not easy being a mod because people often look at you as the enemy. For people who have never been mods before, trust me, you will get a lot of hate, no matter what you do. I can't even begin to tell you how many private messages I have gotten over the years from people who've simply been told 'please don't bump old threads' or 'please stop fighting'. If someone breaks a rule, you let them know so they don't do it again, but people will still look at you as 'being on a high horse' when all you are doing is passing on the rules of the forum to them. |
