probably because Scorpion (best MK fighter) was still mad because his brother killed him before MK1, even the I swear i will protect Sub-Zero because i burned his brother's ass in hell would be broken

Well okay... Though, even if Scorpion would be evil, that still doesn´t make them rivals actually. So I don´t know, they just have rival feel somehow. xD
