As many of you might already know, the Mortal Kombat franchise will be celebrating its 20th birthday this year. In late summer, August i think but i could be mistaken.
It might be a little early but i thought about posting that thread where ppl could discuss about all the good, or sometimes better, or sometimes enraging or disturbing stuff and memories that the franchise we love has provided us all with along the years. I had really great moments playing the MK games for the apparition of MK1 on arcade when i was like 7 to some of their latest installments. Even though i criticize like many ppl do (It is really easy and sometimes fun to do.) i wish the franchise, creators and their characters and storyline all the best. And another 20 years at least of cut-throat fights. Just like in the movies, music or everything else related to arts, being able to last 20 years in this world with one brand/name and still manage to make it bigger than it once was, when things started to drop down is a demonstration of strenght pure and simple, nonetheless. So, a early happy 20th to the team and the franchise and everyone here, sincerly. And here's to 20 great years of this franchise. Crossing my fingers 4 20 more years. And for the team of creators to be nice to Nitara at least once before i'm too old to care.:P Seriously sad she won't raise her glass to this day, but hey, i will raise 2 when time comes. I first saw the original MK in a roast beef joint. At first I was like ok another version of street fighter. Then I saw the digitized actors, then the subzero freeze uppercut slide combo. Then I saw something I had never seen before the juggle combo and of course the fatality. This game was something special and I wanted in on it. Ah if only there were games like this to come along to make me feel that same sense of wonder. One can only hope.
I have a question. Were only the original 10 characters thought up by the time the first game was out or was there mock ups of Smoke and Noob and Kitana that didn't make the game for whatever reasons? |

I don't think there were characters that didn't make the original game but that is from what i remember. I saw that MKA, all characters cards but don't think i've ever heard about one being thought for the original game and not introduced. I could be mistaken though.

For 10th Anniversary of Virtua Fighter, Sega created a special edition of first Virtua Fighter (1993) game. In this 10th Anniversary of Virtua Fighter 1 were all characters introduced in full game series. Characters had all their moves from last VF game at that time (Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, 2003), but all graphics and sounds looked like this game was made in 1993. Original VF1 soundtrack and arenas, all VF4 Evo characters and their moves, classic (1993) 3D graphics, more like geometric blocks, than objects' models made in 2003.
I think about something like that, but of course with MK1. All characters (MKA roster + Skarlet) stylized to MK1 graphics, all 2D arenas Trilogy only (or with some 3D arenas re-created in 2D), original soundtrack, no remixes. Mortal Kombat 20 Anniversary game will be look like classic 2D fighting game, with classic MK1 gameplay system - Fatalities only, no RUN button, no side steps etc.

^^ That would make a lot of reboots.:P
But that's well thought. I remember playing the arcade for MK1 at a restaurant and buying MK2 later on. Awesome times. Getting something for the 20th anniversary would make sense. No matter what it's going to be that should wrap up the history of the franchise. Or at least bring us back to the good old days even more. Let' see what happens. BTW Kemot, i like your sig for a future game title. |

I was introduced to MK after playing Killer Instinct. My cousin had the MK1 on sega mega drive and enjoyed playing the game as Sonya and Lui Kang.
