Mortal Kombat X To Have 12 Old Fighters And 12 New Fighters

Ed Boon shared some new information on Twitter that Mortal Kombat X will have a split roster of new and old fighters.
Thankfully, Ed Boon tweeted “seems accurate” when a fan asked him if Mortal Kombat X would have 12 old characters and 12 new characters. If you look at the character selection screen, you will notice the game has spaces for 24 fighters overall. You will notice old stars Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kano and Raiden have been placed at the top. The new stars of Cassie Cage, D’Vorah, Kotal Kahn and Ferra/Torr are at the bottom. There are 16 fighters left to be announced in Mortal Kombat X. There is a good bet that 8 of them will be returning fighters. Similar Threads:

Sounds good to me.
Sounds good to me. As long as they dont go the SC5 route and get rid of characters that everyone wants, and replaces them with uninteresting clones. I like cassie cage...but does that mean we wont have jhonny or sonya blade ? A great balance of classic characters everyone wants, and new ones that spark new interest. Lets hope for that. :)

Cassie is already a Johnny/Sonya clone to me. And she'll probably have a feud with Kano. That doesn't mean Sonya and Johnny can't be introduced at that point. Just like Kano on the side of evil, they survived MK9 after all. But i mean, this is exactly the Soul Calibur route that they are going so why still act like we hope not? The difference is that after 5 games of almost the same roster returning every time, SC team shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of Taki to replace her by Taki, with a different name. MK's used to putting characters aside to concentrate on a bunch of new faces. That since MK2 (So we could say that SC5 tried to wander on the MK route without success.) It has become a tourney fighter lately with the last game but still, this isn't VF. Last edited by Jonnyrp; 08-14-2014 at 07:19 PM. |

I agree

MK has been known to change its roster up. Even characters by the same name play like new (Classic Sub-Zero vs Sub-Zero-MK3). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...but thats the risk. What i mean by not wanting them to take the soul calibur route, is getting rid of charterers that people still have a vested interest in, while introducing new characters that no one cares about, like Patroklos. And while i do agree that MK was the original risk taker in the fighting game realm, their recent comeback is thanks to turning back to the classic roster. The hat-trick here, is to maintain a balance. Old with the new. And i hope they succeed. The FGC needs this. Thats all i was saying :) |

As for the tourney players. A lot repeated the fact that now that MK had become really popular as a tourney fighter with one shot, they would be kind of "Forced" to keep a rather similar roster with MKX. Which, we see once again that it isn't bound to happen. I didn't do 180s in terms of opinions much because it all lead to the same thing if it appeared hard to read well i'll put it like this: "We all have classic favorites and younger characters. Nope, i'm not willing to jump to conclusion by pretending the new chars aren't interesting cause even though i like their look and gameplay i, like most of us haven't tried them yet. And most of all, the game isn't out yet." Last edited by Jonnyrp; 08-16-2014 at 12:34 AM. |

I started with the first game in the arcades during the 90s. I still remember when i first saw it in Aladdins castle. I'm kind of a fundamentalist when it comes to fighting games, and feel that the classic characters should carry the weight of those games. BUT I also believe they should always be complimented by a group of up and comers. Coincidentally, thats what kind of turned me off from the original MK3 arcade game. But i respect that they went for a cast change. Im hoping for a solid return to arms, of the old hat; with some interesting, memorable newcomers. I dont want to see throwaway characters like SC gave me. So far, that doesn't seem to be the case here. |

I couldn't agree more. As much as i love the old fans fav from the MK1-MK3 era, i'm really eager to see what the new characters have to offer most of the time. And i've been pleased more often than not with this franchise. But my fear is that, as you stated it, characters like Ferra/Torr, Cassie and D'Vorah end up as nothing but lackeys and/or become the Sheeva of the old games. It happened a lot in the past with MK that new characters weren't studied and developed for a 5 cents worth. So yeah, considering this may happen again, the classic roster is really important.
