NetherRealm Studios announced they are officially ending DLC support for
Mortal Kombat 11 and are currently focused on their next project. What their next project is, or whether or not it's a fighting game, is currently unknown. In the official tweet, NRS clarified that no additional DLC characters will be added to MK11 beyond this point. Mortal Kombat 11 originally launched on April 23rd, 2019. In 2020, the game received two title updates, MK11: Aftermath and MK11: Ultimate — adding new characters, including action movie icons such as Terminator T-800, Joker, Spawn, Robocop, and Rambo. Below is the tweet from NRS confirming the news.
The popular fighting games, such as
Street Fighter V and TEKKEN 7, have seen DLC support continue for upwards of 5 years into multiple seasons — in part thanks to continued active player support, strong DLC sales, and record-breaking success in eSports worldwide.
MK11 sales surpassed 8 million units worldwide, slightly more than SFV (5.5 million) and TEKKEN 7 (7 million)
