Following the success of the series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, it was decided that a new Mortal Kombat movie would be made, rebooting the franchise. Since
Kevin Tancharoen has done such a good job with Mortal Kombat: Legacy, he was brought in to direct the
Mortal Kombat movie reboot. This led many to believe that it would link in with the Mortal Kombat: Legacy series but Kevin says that the new movie will stand alone from the series.
Tancharoen told Coming Soon,
Quote:
"We're still pushing through on that. The script is in a good place, we're just kind of figuring out the budget and locations and that whole process is where we're at."

He added,
Quote:
"I think everyone's intention is to start fresh because we want Legacy to live on its own possibly for multiple seasons, and when it comes to Mortal Kombat, it's been around for 20 plus years. We're going to take the mythology and add another layer on it so it can live on for another 20 years, or more! I think this is a unique opportunity to set that ground work."

Kevin Tancharoen has been working on the screenplay for the Mortal Kombat movie reboot with Oren Uziel. There is no official start date yet and no official release date but we will bring you more on that when it has been announced.
