One of the first games available when Sony's mysterious PSP 2 device launches could be
Mortal Kombat, according to details let slip by the game's developer, Netherrealm (formerly Midway Studios). The juicy gossip was passed along by one of the company execs to the Industry Gamers
blog, when asked a question about the platforms that would support release of the new title. A reboot of the popular fighting series is planned for consoles and portable devices, one of which is the 3DS and the
other one being the PSP 2. According to executive producer
Shaun Himmerick, Netherrealm already has test hardware for Sony's new handheld, and they are building their game to work to those new specifications:
"We have a PSP2 in the house and we're looking at the engine, like what can it support. Always a big thing for us is the performance. We're running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We're definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it's a pretty powerful machine. We don't have a 3DS system in house yet, but we're looking to get one, and we'll certainly look at what its power is," Himmerick said.
