Post Street Fighter x Tekken’ Producer Says ‘Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat ’ won't work

If you listen closely, you can hear the frustrated screams of fighting game fans fresh off of their EVO2k11 bender. Despite Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise and the “Noob” in “Noob Saibot,” tweeting several times that he would be open to a Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat crossover (or would that be krossover?), it appears as though Capcom isn’t quite ready for the two rivals to meet in battle.
In a recent interview with the Playstation Blog, Yoshinori Ono, Producer of Street Fighter X Tekken, claims that he doesn’t think Street Fighter will ever match up again Mortal Kombat. “I actually get a lot of requests for Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat on my Twitter feed and elsewhere,” said Ono. “I understand why people want it, but it’s easier said than done. Having Chun Li getting her spine ripped out, or Ryu’s head bouncing off the floor….it doesn’t necessarily match.”

no did go on to say that Street Fighter X Tekken represents a dream realized for him, but there is another he’d love to take on. “I’ve had a couple of dream projects in my head for a while, one being Street Fighter X Tekken, which is actually coming true,” said Ono. “Another would be a Marvel vs DC game which would be pretty damned cool if we could ever pull it off. I’m a big comic-book fan.”
Just because Ono doesn’t think Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat will ever happen doesn’t mean he has avoided the latter franchise. In fact, Ono went on to state that Mortal Kombat‘s story mode “beat” the story modes from Capcom fighters he’s worked on. “I’ve been playing a lot of Mortal Kombat, enjoying their Story mode,” said Ono. “And they did such a good job with their Story mode and some of the other features that I feel like they kind of beat me in that sense. So I’m playing these other fighters and enjoying them, but sometimes it depresses me, too.”

I agree that Street Fighter would not work with the gore element however from a straight up fighting standpoint it's the battle of the all battles. It's Marvel Vs. DC, Magic Vs. Bird, Yankees Vs. Sox and whatever. But seeing as how the gore has to be put into a Mortal Kombat game we will never see this happen. So what would make a cool battle? Let's see what gaming franchise has been around 20 plus years, has been what I think is a precursor to the fighting engine with it's boss battles with a hit meter. Has worked in 2D, has a huge list of heroes and villains, has blood, gore, monsters, great combat,
stages that would be comparable to those in MK and could have fatal consequences and has had a fighting title that was not done to the best of it's potential and has stood the test of time as an all time successful and Guinness Record franchise? This is a mystery.
Screw it I am out. Gonna play some Castlevania right now.

^^ Fulgore vs Cyrax!!
Spinal vs Havik

Yeah! MK is kind of really different from SF compared to KI imo. I wonder, they would probably cut the fatalities again except for an evil char. Not against the idea for the future but, meh.

Out of topic i know but there was a Midway game just before MK4 came out. Mace the Dark Age. Weapon based fighting game and happened before SC. Never had a sequel. If it could help the game come back i'd love to see a crossover with MK. Pretty similar game. You can see on youtube. Similar only for the violence.

^^ Pretty much. Unless Mace wants to come back without all that violence but i don't think that would be smart.

The only problem I have with KI is the game play revolves around chain combos more so than actual fighting. I am open to the idea as long as the whole notion of making those obscenely obesely obtuesely large combos strings is kept in check. Other than that KI works great. The characters are dark and vicious and would make sense killing their opponents. Also, if they brought back the Mercy in MK you could perform the No Mercy to give the other character the fungu.

Does anyone sense that if Boon and pals do decide to put out another MK game that it would be an Ultimate MKIII/MKT situation? Look at how this game's history has gone. MK I,II, III and then Ultimate. MK IV, then Gold, MKDA, MKD then Armageddon. After DC and the current title does it seem pheaseble that they would do something like this. How much rocket sauce can these guys have left .Not only that but as we saw with DC it doesn't bode well if the outside party doesn't fit.

On a side note.
Ono said “Another would be a Marvel vs DC game which would be pretty damned cool if we could ever pull it off. I’m a big comic-book fan.”

I think that game must get made. DC was a brilliant fighting game just not a good MK game. Mixing it with Marvel would kick ass.
