Definitely.
Honestly I'll play if it is 3D as well, but I would much prefer a 2D iteration.
Maybe following the steps of Street Fighter.
Release a re-balanced, version of MK Trilogy, then release a new 2D fighter (with 3D Graphics, OR 2D!).

I don't like the idea of 2D games because it limits so much of the game and of your actions... I don't like sf for that very reason because its never been able to evolve with the exception of maybe its graphics but even that is pushing it

I can't say you're right. Because you haven't said anything worth while really. What substance is there in your post...?

Sector's post though: The Z axis is almost exclusively used for sidestepping in fighting games. Creating a much more defensive fighter than what the Y axis is used for (aerial attacks, especially combo lead ins). The real power to the uppercut in UMK3 is 'not' the damage it does but the fact it will stop a combo-lead with a counter-attack.
So the question becomes:
"Do we want a offensive fighting game utilizing the Y-axis, or defensive fighting game utilizing the Z-axis"
That's not to say that all 2D fighters have no defense to them (UMK3 for example) or that all 3D fighters have no offense to them (Tekken 3). But what is the Z axis actually used for, and do we have to sacrifice the Y axis in the process?
Recently MKvsDC actually did a good job at allowing both.

i think the newest mk was perfect in my view.. i loved everything it had to offer and say that the side step helped plan for better battle tact at least in my opinion... people complain to much and think everything should be 2d because there on this trip where they can't use the side step properly so they complain...
